I've been trying to contact a friend in Cebu over the last 12 hours or so. They were supposed to be logged on to chat about a forthcoming trip, but they weren't there.

I've never been to the Philippines before, but could anyone who has comment on how frequent power cuts are, and how reliable server connections actually are? I'll be prepared for it when I go there, then!

Thanks a lot.

There are occasional "brownouts" in Cebu...but these are infrequent and usually scheduled.Details are published in the press prior to cuts.

The country doesn't have a lot of power cuts especially in the cities. Maximum of one in every three months, maybe.

Internet connections are very reliable. There are plenty of Internet cafes in the cities so you can just drop by anytime to use the Internet. The fee is around 75 cents (US dollar) per hour.

power cuts? almost never in the metro but very frequent in the rural areas. don't think cebu is rural anymore... Maybe that friend just lost their internet connection?

power cut/server connection is very rare. I guess your friend did not log in as agreed.

THERE IS a lot of power cuts, especially in all the 7100 or so island.in manila a lot less but it happens and you have to live with it,unless you have a generator like me.
