There are a lot of Filipino Americans who live here in the US and want to start a business back home in the Philippines. I am one of them. I want to start an internet cafe and I was wondering for those who started their own internet cafes in Manila a long time ago, how is your business doing and was it worth it. I am thinking of starting a business there because I don't like living away from my wife. She goes to school in the Philippines because it is way cheaper for Med school then here. I was hoping that the Internet cafe idea in Manila near schools would give me a good life for me and my wife while she is in school. Please help me.... thanks for your time.

Internet cafes are way beyond the point of over saturation. There are so many of them and most are struggling to earn a halfway decent income. The price is down to P15 per hour and you would need a big place in a good location for it to be profitable. I had 2 cousins here both start internet cafes and they both shut down after a year. Reason being after paying for maintance costs, electric and rent they were barely breaking evan.

Before you ask the Jeepney and cab business is the same way. Due to the high cost of fuel and maintenance and the govt regulating the price it's another barely break evan business.

yeah they are right. Internet Cafes are everywhere. Even in the little villages they might have 2 or 3. The cafe in Palompon charges 10 peso an hour. You would probably have a better chance if you move out of the city and got to where they grow rice and started a mill. You could make some good money there.

I have opened up an internet cafe last August of 2010 in Cebu starting with 10 units. Now I have 16 units including the original 10 Units of which I had already upgraded. My daily average income is P2000 to P2,500. My average monthly total maintenance expenses is P17,000. I think its a very profitable business but there are some important things we should maintain in this business, the speed processor of each CPU, good ambiance of your room, a reliable internet connection and good location.

Don't even think of starting the internet cafe business. At $.35 per hour you can never make a profit. The same goes for any business you might want to start here.

I believe so. Otherwise, Internet cafes would not have mushroomed. In my place alone - the netsite internet cafe in Waltermart, Santa Rosa City, Laguna - the biggest of them all, have slowly but consistently grown, despite numerous small internet cafes. Bottomline, your business have to be strategically located and offer a good customer service so that people who didn't have internet access would find your place convenient and worth the money spent.
