If you're a foreigner, avoid being alone in shopping areas like Greenhills, and malls like Megamall or Glorietta. For sure, robbers will eye you and steal your wallet. And they're good - you'll only notice it when you need your wallet for something.

Avoid going through rush hour traffic, especially during friday, and most especially during the Christmas season. You'll be stuck on the road for a minimum of two hours.

Avoid riding the MRT or LRT during rush hour, they're usually jampacked!

When crossing the street, avoid cars, motorcycles, buses and jeepneys. In the Philippines, not a lot of people give importance to the pedestrian lanes. I'm from here and I hate crossing streets here.

On a lighter note, if you go to a shopping place with stalls (not the malls) like Greenhills, avoid buying an item with the first price that's given to you. HAGGLE! It's fun!

It's still fun here, because thieves aside, the people are friendly, funny, and pleasant. :)

Avoid being alone. Pickpocketters are everywhere. Muggers will lurk behind you, especially if you are an American citizen. Have your possessions with you at all times and attached to you to a point where snatching them will be a struggle. Some people avoid Manila for just the pure reason to steer clear from the beggars. Most of the beggars are children and it hurts my very heart and soul to see such little hands begging for money or a pinch of bread. I give whatever I can when I see them. Of course as I do so, I am careful as to have no one attack me or rob me. Just be cautious and have someone with you.

all countries have their upside and downsides as well, if you are in the philippines, all things you must avoid getting caught is to violate laws just like a normal country would have, they don't have out of this world ordinances that could get you behind bars. if you want to avoid headaches, dont travel the city during rush hours 6am-9am/5pm-9pm, it's heavily traffic mostly in main areas. if you want to buy something, try going to malls, shopping areas and decent stores not along the sidewalks. know the common fare rates and people here share equality but if you look like a bling-blinged tourist, they charge you for being one. wear decent comfortable clothes to avoid dry-warm/dry-cold climates. filipinos are known for being hospitable, they welcome you to wealth of 7,000 wonders, all good! there are lots of honest filipinos, it's up to you if you want to be fooled because no ones being fooled without their consent.
