Myth&Folklore in the Philippines?

1] what are the best myths/folklore you can tell about your province/region in the philippines?

2] and how come there are so many superstitions in the PH?

For over two thousand years Filipinos were educated using techniques that developed the right side of their brain. Most Filipinos are right brain thinkers..... that is why they are so good at playing chess.....why they love and excell at music and art......and why they accept and follow religion so quickly



In five years I have NEVER met a Filipino athiest..... ALL of them believe to some degree or other......and most of them believe in several different religious concepts from annimism to Christianity...... they see no conflict or problem in having multiple beliefs at the same time.......what can it hurt



many do not consider them something to be taken lightly......they can get very upset if you make fun of their beliefs...... and when you think about it......they are not much different than most other countries.....America has a LOT of superstitions....... America also has a history of left brain thinking.....hense the large number of athiests



GEE.....Please read.....I did NOT say there are no Filipino athiests.....I said in five years living here I have never met one.... AND you do believe in something.....be honest.... I would wager you do not throw away uneaten cooked rice or other food ( lamog) but give it to the dog or cat........you might even spit in the food of someone you want to fall in love with you.... or yell a warning before you throw hot water on the ground..... or not get married in the same year as your siblings.....be honest..... you maybe(??) an "athiest"..... but you still believe many of the same things others do here in the Philippines

What Kojak said is wrong. Not ALL of the Filipinos are not Atheist. I'm a Filipino and I'm an atheist.

Well, here's my answers:

1] Ilocos Region, our family's province, has Lam-Ang as a hero character, and he's one of my fave. ;)

2] There are so many superstitions in the PH cause we have so many islands, we have 7thousand + islands in our country, and almost each of the region or province has a folklore and so many superstitions.

There are so many, maybe the best ones have to do with the volcanoes. As for the proliferation of supersittions, it probably has a lot to do with the relative large number of languages (dialects) in the PI. Each dialect, and many have sub dialects, represents a civiliazation, like Greece, India, Rome, Sparta, Bicol, Bacolod, ect. Example, most superstitions and Gods in Rome are mirrored in Greek tradition, you at least 2 myths for everything, and if you turn deeper you'll find a myth for each civilization, and thus a myth to explain everything in PI from each civilization, or from each language dialect base. There is a God in each dialect for each major thing, like the Sun and the Moon, and a story to explain this. Early PI was very separated and so each area has their own customs and supersititions, but some are not so known anymore.

im kinda a Filipino (half) but i cant believe she could say that look at all the heroes even my dad (not Filipino) thinks the phil.is doing great progress..... i would feel very hurt and my mother is a filipino and she is not a brown monkey.. some Filipinos are better than people from other countries. she probably said that because some people here around in the philippines are lazy.. ok ive said enough.

we have many superstitions because in early times

our ancestors believes in everything w/o any scientific

proofs....... we dont really get any improvements becuz

our country is colonized by 2 countries but saved by AMERICA
