whats the best (and safest) way to travel around the Philippines?

Have a wife 30 miles from Bagiuo (150 miles north of Manilla) don't want to rent a car (expensive), but foreigns tend to attract the wrong sort of attention. As there a better way?

transportation ranges from the smallest motorcycle ride to jumbo jets(cheapest to the most expensive). renting a car will cost you more, try the most common way of travelling in the philippines, commuting, meaning ride a jeep or bus from one area to another, choose from air-con to ordinary fare, prices differ. it's cheaper, you just have to pay exact amount, this is a bit exhausting if your aiming for longer trips but fun if your a person who enjoys window seats, there's a lot of places to see. be sure to have a map for extra-direction, or better yet find a nice pinoy to help you around on places to go and would be glad to attend to your simple travelling/touring needs.

if you are laoded,have a tourist guide...dont be stupid and always have a presence of mind and rent a car is not that expensive!
