So are you telling me, Western people don’t discriminate SE Asians or any other group of people? C’mon, we know that discrimination is ubiquitous. I mean, not only us, not only Koreans, not only in West. So, when it comes to personal preferences, nobody’s superior enough to dictate what should be chosen.
There are many bad things about Korea and Koreans, the same is about all countries and people for nothing is really absolutely perfect. Like, the inequality between male and female there; or the homosexual intolerance (okay, some may find it good), or the use of certain words like “babo” (idiot in English) openly, and many others. But it’s their culture. You can’t tell them not to do it, you just have to deal with it or you leave them alone. So in that case, you can see that I am not Korea-biased here.
But of course, there are those things also that are adorable about them. If you widen your perspective, you can see that there really are the good sides about Korea and its people. Start from movies, recently, they really have good movies. You can rarely see nude scenes so they’re usually suitable for any viewer. Also, the storylines are mostly good, like “The Classic”, “My Sassy Girl”, “Taegukgi”, “Oldboy”, “The Attack On The Pin-Up Boys (my boyfriends)”, and “A Frozen Flower (this is Rated R, but it’s amazing how they made a very good storyline out of this nude movie)”. Second, Kpop--if you just try to see one group, take for example SJ, you’ll see that these people really did hard to make it to their positions now. They underwent years of training (some had it decade), so they’re legit. Also, K-pop artists have been on many reality shows, where you can see them filmed for like months or years. These RS’s are made for the viewers to know more about their idols, and there starts the use of the term “bias”. Sampler: “Full House”, “EHB”, and “Intimate Note” for Super Junior; “Hello Baby” and SHINee’s Yunhanam” for SHINee; “Horror Factory” and “Intimate Note” for SNSD, and “IY” for random artists. Third, food. Uhm, I am not a big fan of their food, but many find it really good because it’s healthy. Fourth, about their conduct towards one another--they use some honorifics to show some respect, especially for the older, what’s there to hate about that?
West, on the other side, is more liberated. I have this Korean friend and he told me that Korean guys date Western girls because they think they’re easy. I know that’s lame, but if I were closed, I would have thought of it that way too. I love their food, but not all. I personally am not easily attracted to Western boys. I have to see them for months now or I’ll forget I saw them once. But yeah, I’m usually attracted to darker ones. I mean, not very dark, but rather, like the one in Step Up. For 19 years, of all American White guy celebrities I saw, I’ve only found Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Zac Efron (only in 17 Again), Daniel Radcliffe, Ian Somerhalder and Alex Pettyfer attractive. Some other Western boys I’ve found attractive are Zayn Malik (part Asian), and Brian McFadden. A-pop used to be fine, but no longer now. I mean, almost all you hear is that F thing and money, etc. One Direction, at least Western, is almost just like K-pop groups, so of course, people choose the original.
About your shared link (thanks for that), that’s true (Korean friends themselves told me). But not all are discriminating. However, even if they do that, hell yeah, they’re also discriminated here, although not all do. These people don’t yet know what we could do. But of course, if you make me choose West or East, what do you think? I am an Asian so the bottom line is East.
